Choosing the Right Divö
Which Divö camera is right for me?
The honest answer is that it depends on how you use your car and what you want your protection to look like. Rather than guessing, use our Smart Selector at divoindia.com/smart-selector. It is a short questionnaire that takes about a minute to complete and recommends the most suitable Divö camera based on your driving habits, car type, and priorities. That said, here is a quick overview. The D20 is a front-only Full HD camera that suits daily city commuters who want straightforward protection. The D20R adds a rear camera and is our most popular model for all-round city protection. The D30 takes things up to 4K with built-in GPS, which makes a real difference on highways. The D30R gives you 4K front and rear coverage and is the best all-round value on the range. The D40R adds a third camera for the cabin and is built for chauffeur-driven cars, family vehicles, or anyone who wants complete inside and outside coverage. If you are still unsure after the Smart Selector, message us on WhatsApp and we will help you pick.
Do I need a front and rear camera?
For most drivers in India, we would say yes. Incidents from behind are just as common as incidents from ahead, and without a rear camera you have no footage of what the car behind you did. The D20R and D30R offer front and rear coverage and the difference in price between the single and dual channel models is genuinely small for the added protection it gives you.
Is 4K really necessary?
It depends on how you drive. If you regularly use highways or want footage that can clearly capture number plates at speed, 4K is worth having. At high speeds, Full HD footage can struggle with plate readability, especially at night or in difficult lighting. 4K handles this considerably better. For primarily urban, slow-speed driving, Full HD is perfectly adequate and gives you excellent footage for most situations you will actually encounter.
What is the difference between the D30 and the D30R?
The D30 is a front-only 4K camera with built-in GPS and ADAS. The D30R adds a 4K rear camera. The front camera quality, GPS tracking, and all ADAS features are identical between the two. The only difference is the D30R also watches what is happening behind you.
What is ADAS and do I need it?
ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance System. On the D30, D30R, and D40R, it includes Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Forward Car Movement Detection, and Driver Fatigue Alerts. These are features that actively monitor your driving and alert you to potential hazards in real time. They are genuinely useful on highways. For city driving, they can be a little sensitive because of the stop-and-start nature of traffic, but most drivers find them helpful once they adjust the sensitivity settings.
Why does the D40R have a Super Capacitor instead of a battery?
Lithium batteries do not love heat, and Indian summers are not gentle on electronics. A car parked in direct sunlight in Mumbai or Delhi in May can reach internal temperatures that degrade a standard battery-powered dashcam over time, leading to corrupted footage, shortened battery life, or the camera simply giving up. A SuperCapacitor handles extreme heat far better than a lithium battery and does not degrade in the same way. It makes the D40R more reliable for Indian conditions, particularly for anyone who parks in outdoor or semi-covered spaces.
Compatibility and Installation
Will Divö work with my car?
Divö cameras are compatible with all passenger cars that have a standard 12V power socket, which covers virtually every car sold in India. One exception worth noting: if you drive a Mahindra Thar or a Jeep, the D20 and D20R are not compatible due to the windshield angle and mounting limitations on these vehicles. The D30, D30R, and D40R work with a wider range of mounting configurations. If you are unsure about your specific model, message us on WhatsApp before ordering and we will confirm.
Can I install it myself?
The standard windshield mount and 12V socket installation is genuinely simple. It takes around 15 minutes, requires no tools, and most people manage it on the first try without any help. The Hardwire Kit is a different matter. It involves connecting to your car's fuse box and we strongly recommend having it done by a qualified mechanic or car electrician. Visit divoindia.com/installation for step-by-step guides and installation videos for both methods.
How much does professional installation cost?
Standard dashcam installation by a mechanic or car accessories shop usually costs between Rs.700 and Rs.1,500 depending on your city and the type of installation. Hardwire installation costs a little more. Always confirm the price before the work begins. If you feel you are being quoted an unreasonable amount, message us on WhatsApp and we will give you an honest sense of what is fair in your city.
Does the 12V socket installation drain my car battery?
No, the standard 12V socket installation does not drain your battery because the camera only receives power when the ignition is on and switches off the moment you turn the car off. The Hardwire Kit is a different matter. When the Hardwire Kit is installed correctly by a qualified professional, it includes automatic low voltage protection that cuts power before your battery gets too low to start the car. However, if the Hardwire Kit is not installed correctly, it can in some instances draw from the battery when the car is parked. This is precisely why we recommend professional installation for the Hardwire Kit.
Can I move my Divö camera between different cars?
Yes. The 3M adhesive mount is designed to be removable. Take your time when removing it from the glass to avoid leaving residue. Replacement mounts are available at divoindia.com
Recording, Footage, and Features
Does Divö record audio as well as video?
Yes. All Divö cameras record audio by default using the built-in microphone. You can disable audio recording in the camera settings menu if you prefer. Many drivers disable it when carrying passengers for privacy reasons, and that is completely understandable.
How do I know my Divö is recording?
A red LED indicator lights up when the camera is powered on and recording. The screen, where present, also shows a live view. If you want to confirm that footage is being saved correctly, you can check through the app or review the card in the camera's playback mode.
What is loop recording?
Loop recording means the camera continuously records and automatically overwrites the oldest footage when the memory card is full. This means you never have to manually delete files and the camera never stops recording because of a full card. Any footage that is locked by the G-sensor after an impact is protected from being overwritten.
What happens to footage during an accident?
Divö cameras include a built-in G-sensor that detects sudden impacts or heavy braking. When triggered, the camera automatically locks the current recording file so it cannot be overwritten by loop recording. This protects the most important footage automatically, without you having to do anything.
Is dashcam footage admissible for insurance claims and legal purposes in India?
Dashcam footage is widely accepted by Indian insurance companies as supporting evidence for claims and is increasingly recognised in motor accident cases. While there is no single national law that mandates its acceptance, most private insurers and courts treat clear, timestamped footage as credible evidence. Having footage does not guarantee an outcome, but it puts you in a significantly stronger position than having no evidence at all. This is precisely why we built Divö.
Does Divö record at night?
Yes. All Divö cameras include enhanced night vision technology that improves footage quality in low-light conditions. The D30, D30R, and D40R perform particularly well at night given their larger sensors and higher resolution. Complete darkness will always present a challenge for any camera, but in typical Indian night driving conditions including street lighting and headlights, footage is clear and usable.
Can I view live footage remotely from outside the car?
Not in real time over the internet. The app connects to your camera over a direct WiFi hotspot, which means you need to be physically near the car for the live preview to work. Remote viewing over mobile data is not currently supported
Can I download footage without using the app?
Yes. You can remove the microSD card from the camera and read it on a computer using a card reader. Footage is saved as standard video files that can be played in any video player. You can also use the app for wireless download to your phone, which is more convenient for most situations
What is GPS used for in the D30, D30R, and D40R?
The built-in GPS records your speed and location data into every video file as a data overlay. This means your footage shows exactly where you were, how fast you were going, and the direction of travel at every moment. This information is particularly useful for insurance claims and dispute resolution. With viidure VIP, you can also view your trips on a 3D map overlay.
